Have scraps of leather you would like to use for a fun and quick project? Do you want to try leather for the first time without purchasing huge pieces? This might be the project for you!

This card and coin pouch is the perfect scrap buster. It uses only a few materials, small cuts of leather, and it is really practical (see video tutorial & pattern piece file at the bottom of the page). Here's what you will need:

Materials:

  • Leather (2-4 oz) with a bit of structure. Cut two pieces:

    • (1) 4.5"W x 6.75"H

    • (1) 4.5"W x 2.5"H

  • Nylon Zipper 5" or longer (will be trimmed to fit)

Other Supplies:

  • Leather Glue or 1/8" Double-Sided Tape

  • Thread (type depends on the machine)

  • Paper for printing two pattern pieces

  • Leather Sewing Machine Needle

Tools:

  • Arc-Shaped Punch (Optional) & Mallet

  • Seam Ripper

  • Precision Craft Knife (Exacto Knife) & Ruler

  • Rotary Cutter and Cutting Mat

Click here to grab the templates that are referenced in the video tutorial below. Print and cut out your pieces, then follow along with the video tutorial. Just a heads up...You may hear a bit of hammering in the background. Some construction was being done in the room above me while filming!

Considering burnishing your edges? Take a look at the quick video showing one easy method we use for doing this with only a small scrap of canvas and a burnishing agent.
