The Essentials Wallet is an unlined wallet that can be made entirely using one of our large leather panels (and a small bit of firm leather for a wrist strap). Since the recommended leather for this pattern has a softer temper, you will find that it can be sewn pretty easily on most home machines.

About this Tutorial
The primary source of instructions for this wallet is the YouTube video, but we have created a really awesome supplemental file to make constructing this wallet even easier. The file includes printable pattern pieces, measure & cut instructions (if you prefer those), pattern notes, tips, as well as supplemental written instructions. Please note, these written instructions are only a supplement to the video, so process photos are not included. See the short video clips below for a tour of the wallet and a few brief details about the supplemental files.
Sewing on a Domestic/Home Machine
Of course, if sewing on a home machine, be sure to use a leather needle. The correct needle makes a huge difference is the ease of sewing as well as the look of the stitches. Speaking of stitches...we recommend avoiding cotton thread and increasing your stitch length from what is typically used for most fabrics. Increasing the stitch length not only enhances the look of the stitch line, but it also prevents the perforations from being so close together that the stitch line is weakened.
Materials and Supplies
The materials and supplies needed for this wallet are covered in both the video and the supplemental file. Please see the links below to access them.
